Westside Skydivers

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WARNING: We are NOT affiliated with any booking agencies such as: Skyride, Bilateral, Sportations, Headband, Thrillzone, etc. so if you bought a ticket from them, we cannot accept them. Please be sure you book your skydive online or calling our reservation center at 888-758-JUMP, the MN location direct at 320-485-2124, or the TX location direct at 832-301-1323 and speak with a Westside Skydivers staff member: Kristin, Mike,  Ashley, or Taylor. Thanks!

ARE THERE AGE/WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS?

There is no age limit; however you MUST be 18 to skydive. You must present a VALID driver's license prior to jumping. There is a maximum weight limit of 260 pounds. You must call ahead for prior approval if you are above 240 pounds.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Athletic Shoes
  • Comfortable Clothing Suitable for the day's weather - preferably nothing baggy or collared shirts that will bunch under the harness
  • Family & Friends to watch/support!
  • Don't Jump on an Empty Stomach (we recommend eating a light meal or snack)

HOW DO I BOOK WITH A GROUPON OR LIVING SOCIAL VOUCHER?

We do run specials from time to time on Groupon or Living Social to offer a great deal to our customers! Unfortunately our online reservation system is NOT set up to take vouchers at this time. You must call to reserve your jump if you have a voucher. Due to the large volume of vouchers, we do limit the number we take each day. If you want to reserve a weekend, we recommend booking AT LEAST 2-3 weeks in advance. For weekdays, a weeks notice is recommended. Thanks for your understanding!

IS SKYDIVING SAFE?

Skydiving is like any extreme sport, there are some risks. Our instructors use the utmost caution and safety is our number one priority at Westside Skydivers! Skydiving requires training and careful execution. Failure to do so result in serious injury or death. Westside Skydivers is a proud member of the United States Parachute Association. Our professional instructors not only uphold the high standards that are required by the U.S.P.A.,  but are also drug tested by Westside. Each jump master has well over 1000 skydives and our staff has a combined experience of over 40 years in the skydiving industry. Our pilots are professionally trained and are held to the same high standards that the FAA uses at the airlines.

CAN I JUMP ALONE THE FIRST TIME?

No, our program requires your first two jumps to be tandems, meaning you must be harnessed to your instructor. You will be allowed to pull your own parachute and steer if you wish!

WHAT DOES SKYDIVING FEEL LIKE?

Freefall can feel like you are flying, it is the most intense part, but also can be the most liberating. The canopy ride is more peaceful and relaxing.

HOW LONG DOES THE SKYDIVE LAST?

Freefall can last up to 45 to 90 seconds, depending on which altitude you choose, or choose the EXTREME 24k tandem & experience 2 minutes of freefall, while the canopy ride takes about 5-7 minutes. You should plan on spending half the day at the drop zone on a weekday and the entire day on the weekend, just in case we are running behind due to weather.

WHAT ARE THE LANDINGS LIKE?

Most landings are fairly soft, we try to land our passengers on their feet, however there will be some smoother sit down landings if there is little to no wind; safety first!

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE PARACHUTE DOESN'T OPEN?

This is the most common question. It is highly unlikely that the main parachute will not open, however federal law requires each jumper to have a main and a reserve parachute. Ours are equipped with Automatic Activation Devices, which will automatically open the reserve if the jumper cannot.

SUDDEN DROP MYTH?!?

Fear of heights??? - Not to worry!!! As you exit the aircraft, a cushion of air is created by the forward speed of the aircraft, which supports your body as you accelerate to terminal velocity! There is NO sudden drop feeling associated with freefall. It's more like a floating sensation as you have no other objects to relate to except blue sky!

DO I NEED TO MAKE A DEPOSIT WITH MY RESERVATION?

We DO require a reservation for groups of 5 or more (to obtain the group discount), a $50 deposit per person is required - this money will go TOWARD your skydive. For those without groups, a credit card is required at the time of booking for our cancellation policy. Nothing will be charged to your card unless you fail to comply with our cancellation policy. If you do prepay for your jump in full, you will receive $20 off, if you put down a deposit, you will get $10 off. Please note that if you do prepay, there are no refunds, you will be issued a raincheck if you cannot jump due to weather. Rainchecks do not expire and they are transferrable.

CAN I GET A REFUND IF I DECIDE NOT TO JUMP?

You can receive a complete refund up until you board the airplane less your deposit. This policy does not apply to groups with reservations or prepaid jumps. If you cannot jump due to weather, a rain check for your deposit will be issued. (This does not apply to Groupon vouchers, as they expire upon their stated date of expiration). Westside Skydivers prides itself on safety and we will only jump if conditions are safe. Some unsafe conditions are: cloud cover, aircraft maintenance, rain, and winds in excess of 30 mph. Please read our "Weather" Blog for more info.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

We ask that you give us at least 48 hours to cancel or change a reservation. Canceling your reservation 48 hours before your class date will result in a $50 fee. Please understand that our instructors have been scheduled to accommodate your reservations.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Plan to spend 1/2 the day at the dropzone. Many factors can affect wait times...most commonly weather. Typically we try to get you in and out within a few hours, but we do get backed up from time to time. Please allow extra time for groups.

WHAT TYPES OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

We take cash or credit, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Sorry, no checks!!!

WEATHER ISSUES?

We do try to call & inform you that the weather is bad 2 hours prior - however weather can move in unexpectedly. Please call the dropzone before you leave if you are unsure of weather conditions. You are welcome to call the evening before if you have an early jump scheduled.

CAN I BRING MY OWN CAMERA LIKE A GOPRO?

No. Why? Safety! We require our instructors to have a minimum of 200 tandems (plus their 500 jumps) before they can start flying camera, and licensed jumpers require 100 jumps before you start jumping with a camera. There is simply way too much going on during the jumps while you are new in the sport; no exceptions!

DO YOU OFFER A LOYALTY PROGRAM?

YOU BET! After you have jumped with us once - we offer you the second tandem at $100. After you have done your two tandems, and you don't think the solo program is for you - fear not! We will give you a "Frequent Flyer Card" which means you will get the $125 tandem rate for LIFE! Awesome-sauce!

 FYI:

Videos include: pre-jump interview, jump edited to music, and WE ARE THE ONLY DROPZONE IN MINNESOTA/TEXAS TO CAPTURE YOUR ENTIRE CANOPY FOOTAGE! You will also get about 100 stills.

Refunds: we will require $50 down for group reservations; this deposit secures your discount rate and reservation. If you decide to cancel you will be issued a 'raincheck' to be used toward your jump when you reschedule. Rainchecks get VIP treatment when you come back!

Westside Skydivers prides itself on trying to accommodate all passengers. If you have special needs, we have special equipment to facilitate your jump.
